North Fort Myers gas station clerk accused of selling alcohol & vapes to minors

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A North Fort Myers gas station clerk with prior violations was arrested Monday after she was accused of selling alcohol and vaping products to minors without checking identification.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office arrested gas station clerk Shelcea Reyes-Barahona, 27, on Monday.

The sheriff's office got a tip from a parent that an Exxon gas station in North Fort Myers was selling alcohol and THC products to high school students as young as 15 years old.

Undercover Narcotics detectives conducted a controlled buy by using an underage individual. During the operation, the minor was reportedly able to buy both THC and alcohol from Reyes-Barahona without being asked to show identification.

"That's just awful. I mean, there's just no reason for that to happen. With the kids in the neighborhood, a lot of them are on their scooters or coming out of school, and to have that available to them without a parent's permission, it's just wrong," said Babcock Rach resident Rhona Lewis.

This was not Reyes-Barahona's first time reportedly selling restricted products to minors. She had previously been issued two notices to appear — once in March 2023 and again in February 2025 — by other agencies for selling tobacco to a person under 21. In both cases, she failed to appear in court and was arrested.

The sheriff's office says Reyes-Barahona is also held on an ICE detainer.
