A Punta Gorda tech shop owner is accused of fraud and criminal use of personal information, the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office said.
According to an arrest report, a victim took their laptop to OnTech, owned by Kory Cameron Kossick, 28, to check for viruses. The report says that after leaving the laptop with Kossick, the victim was notified by their bank that there was an attempted wire transfer for $1,895.
The report says that when the victim asked Kossick about the transfer, he told them that he was making sure that the computer was working properly. The victim reportedly told deputies that they did not give Kossick any authority to access any of the applications on their computer.
Deputies say that subpoenas were served, which found that Kossick did indeed attempt a wire transfer under the victim's name.
Kossick was arrested on Wednesday and was charged with fraud and committing a computer offense to defraud to obtain property.
