Punta Gorda gears up for Gulf Coast Classic Auction’s wild lineup of cars and culture

Get ready to rev your engines! Classic cars, rare rides, and automotive oddities are cruising into Punta Gorda for the Gulf Coast Classic Auction on March 13–14.

The two-day event at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center promises something for every kind of car lover, from seasoned collectors to first-time bidders.

Organized by the Premier Auction Group, the Gulf Coast Classic isn’t your typical auction. With hundreds of vehicles slated to cross the block, it’s a place where muscle, vintage and exotic machines share space and where anyone can raise their hand to buy.

“You do not have to be a dealer to buy a car,” said Brent Troxell with Premier Auction Group. “Anyone is allowed to come in and place a bid.”

The lineup this year spans several automotive worlds. In past auctions, cars like 1960s Camaros, Corvettes and classic Mustangs have drawn big crowds, alongside European classics and custom builds. Attendees can preview vehicles in person or sign up for live and online bidding options.

Beyond the typical classics and muscle cars, expect the unexpected.

"We've had a few Batmobiles, carriages and boats," Said Troxell.

Whether you came for a vintage pickup or a street-rod oddity, there’s plenty to explore.

One of the unique vehicles this year is a rare and memorable sports car: the Plymouth Prowler.

Built between 1997 and 2002, the Prowler is a two-seat roadster with retro-hot-rod styling and open front wheels that make it look like a modern Indy racer mixed with a ’30s custom. Its aluminum body and distinctive looks have turned it into a favorite at auctions and car shows alike.

“You’re not going to see anything like it anywhere else,” Troxell said.

But the fun of the Gulf Coast Classic isn’t just about the cars. The event has become a draw for visitors from across the country, with previous auctions bringing thousands of people to town.

Many attendees stick around after the bidding to enjoy local restaurants, shopping and the scenic waterfront. It's a boost for Punta Gorda’s economy.

"We like giving back to the community," said Troxell.
