The Edison Festival of Light is set to light up the streets of downtown Fort Myers Saturday, shining light on local businesses.
Jason Thomas, co-owner of Spirit of the Earth on First Street, notes events like the Edison Festival Parade and baseball spring training games bring thousands to the area, ready to eat, shop, and spend money.
"Come down this weekend because the weather's fantastic. Locals and tourists love the weather," Thomas said.
The festival, now in its 88th year, will feature local high school marching bands, floats, and plenty of lights to honor Thomas Edison. Thousands are expected to line the streets to see the parade.
Melisa Giovannelli, from the festival board of directors, emphasized the festival's role in attracting business.
"I think it brings business here, and a lot of the business will stay. People will come back and go to something else that they might have seen when they were here at the parade," Giovannelli said.
While business doors might be open, roads will be closed for the event. Those looking to catch the parade are advised to arrive early for parking before it starts at 7 p.m.
