A woman is accused of skipping her court date after being arrested on charges of child abuse for throwing a cup of hot water on a child.
According to Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers, Abby Resilus, 39, was frustrated with a child over bad behavior, grabbed a cup of scalding hot water from the microwave and threw it at the child's face.
Despite clear and immediate pain and injuries, Resilus did not take the child to seek treatment until the next day, when doctors had to refer the child to a burn clinic, Crime Stoppers said.
The child suffered second-degree burns around her eyes, mouth, cheek and forehead, and had scarring that would most likely become permanent, Crime Stoppers said.
Resilus was arrested and charged with child abuse, then released on bond two days later.
Resilus had a court date in January, but did not show up. She is 5 feet tall and weighs about 160 pounds, according to Crime Stoppers.
If you have information in this case, you are asked to contact Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477), on the P3 app, or on its website. You can remain anonymous, and if your tip leads to an arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $3,000.
