Edison Festival of Light to illuminate Fort Myers

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — Thousands of lights and historic decorations are set to illuminate downtown Fort Myers tonight as the Edison Festival of Light takes center stage.

WINK News reporter Paul Dolan was in downtown Fort Myers early Saturday morning, capturing the calm before the festivities begin. Dolan said, "Right now it's quiet out here, but by tonight these streets will be filled with lights, floats, and thousands of people celebrating the Festival of Lights."

This annual celebration is a favorite for many, but it may cause some traffic disruptions for drivers. Road closures will begin as early as 2:30 p.m. to prepare for the 5K and the Grand Parade. Several downtown streets, including Jackson, Main, First, and Second, will have restrictions, and access to the Edison Bridge will be limited. City leaders are advising drivers to arrive early or park outside the route.

Detours will be in place, with police and event staff assisting in directing traffic. Dolan advised, "If you're coming down here tonight, the best advice is simple: get here early and expect delays." Organizers suggest parking outside the parade route to avoid stress and save time.

The parade is scheduled to start at 7 p.m., but attendees are encouraged to plan their arrival hours in advance to ensure a smooth experience.
