A bomb threat at South Fort Myers High School prompted students and staff to be evacuated from the campus Monday morning.
According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, multiple deputies and detectives responded to the school for the reported bomb threat made via telephone.
Deputies said the school was evacuated to an adjacent field on the property as a precautionary measure. Students were safe, and there were no injuries, according to the sheriff's office.
LCSO also said the agency's assets, including the bomb squad, remained on the scene until the situation was resolved. No items were found, and the students and staff returned to the school. The sheriff's office said this is an active investigation.
The School District of Lee County said the following statement from the school went out to families:
"Good Morning Wolfpack family,
"This email is to inform you of an incident on campus this morning. First and foremost, all students are safe.
"Out of an abundance of caution, all students were evacuated to a safe location due to a bomb threat. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded and searched the entire campus. No contraband items were discovered, and students were cleared to return to class.
"Teaching and learning are continuing as normal. Thank you for your trust and understanding.
