FLORIDA, (WINK)— A cold weather advisory and freeze warning will be in effect Tuesday morning, prompting the preemptive activation of county-run shelters for those in need of refuge.
Several counties have announced their plans ahead of the Tuesday morning cold snap.
The Charlotte CARE Center (formerly the Charlotte County Homeless Coalition), located on 1476 Kenesaw St. in Port Charlotte, will open Monday and Tuesday nights. Pre-registration by calling 941-627-4313 is required, and the latest arrival time will be 8 p.m.
The Salvation Army-Center of Hope, located at 1400 10th St. in Sarasota, will conduct its cold-weather operations Monday night. Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
Guests are asked to leave the campus afterward and may return at 7 p.m. for shelter entry, with check-ins completed by 8:30 p.m.
All guests will be required to present a valid ID upon checking in
Showers will be available from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
Breakfast will be provided to go on Tuesday morning, and all guests are asked to depart from the shelter by 6 a.m.
Breeze Routes 2, 7, 8, or 99 operating on normal schedules will arrive within about two blocks of the Salvation Army on 10th Street.
The 100 Church, 14525 Tamiami Trail, North Port, will open a cold weather shelter tonight, Feb. 23. Please bring sleeping supplies.
Breeze Route 9, operating on a normal schedule, will arrive within about one block of 100 Church. Those in the North Port service area could also use the Breeze OnDemand service.
Several Lee County departments are coordinated to provide assistance for those in need of refuge on Monday night.
Due to limited bed availability, The Salvation Army, located at 2400 Edison Ave. in Fort Myers, will provide first-come, first-served shelter through Wednesday.
Those in need of shelter are asked to arrive for intake before 7 p.m.
LeeTran will provide warming buses at the following times and locations: 6 to 10 a.m., South Fort Myers Transfer Station, located at 13182 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers.
Lehigh Acres Park & Ride, located at 1121 Village Lakes Blvd., Lehigh Acres, from 6 to 10 a.m.
Cape Coral Transfer Station, located at 820 S.E. 47th Terrace, Cape Coral, from 6 to 10 a.m.
