Collier County deputies said a man threatened multiple people with a box cutter at a 7-Eleven and a Circle K along Airport-Pulling Road North.
At approximately 11:03 p.m. on Friday, deputies were called to the 7-Eleven after receiving reports that a man threatened the store clerk with a box cutter.
The victim told deputies that the man, later identified as 38-year-old Stephen Sacco, entered the store, saying he was hungry. The clerk pointed towards the food items and told him that he could purchase them, but Sacco said he would "just steal the food," according to the sheriff's office report.
The report states that Sacco then raised a box cutter knife in the air and said, "Ima see you b----." The clerk told CCSO that he feared for his life. Surveillance footage showed Sacco holding the box cutter near the counter area and leaving without stealing anything, the report states.
Shortly after deputies responded, they received another call at a Circle K approximately one-fourth of a mile south of the 7-Eleven. Deputies received reports of a man matching the same description as the one who went to 7-Eleven chasing customers inside the store with a knife.
A deputy responded to the Circle K and detained Sacco in the parking lot. According to CCSO, he had six Four Loko alcoholic beverages and a gray and blue bag in his possession.
The store's clerk told CCSO that Sacco entered the store and approached the counter with the box cutter in hand and ordered the clerk to turn around and look the other way. The clerk did so, fearing that he would be cut or seriously injured, CCSO said.
The employee also said Sacco then walked to the cooler and removed four Four Lokos and left the store without paying.
A witness said she saw Sacco enter the store and stand behind a male wearing an unzipped shirt before he said, "Put on a shirt p----," and brandished the box cutter. According to CCSO, the witness also stated that Sacco chased the male around the store before the male fled prior to deputies arriving.
Noel Calzolano, a Naples resident, expressed concern about the incident, saying, "You know, here in Naples it is a safe place. We love that about this community. I just live right up the road here And also a very nice neighborhood. So it's pretty scary, actually."
Lisa Summers, another Naples resident, commented on the choice of weapon, saying, "Oh, I think it's kind of an interesting choice of a tool to use. It's not very conventional."
Sacco was taken to the Naples Jail Center and is facing charges of robbery with a weapon, aggravated assault (with a weapon without intent to kill and possessing an open container of alcohol in public.
