Florida woman who lost leg in boat accident throws first pitch at Twins spring training game

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

Spring Training Opening Day with the Minnesota Twins is in the books, and two special guests threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Hammond Stadium at Lee Health Sports Complex on Saturday.

Nichole Hall and Dr. Joseph Lewis threw out the first pitch together as the Twins took on the Boston Red Sox.

Hall survived a near-fatal boating accident that resulted in the loss of her left leg and part of her hip.

"I am a hemipelvectomy amputee, which means I have a very rare amputation. It's less than 1% of amputations. It means I'm missing part of my pelvis as well," Hall said to Gulf Coast News in an interview earlier this month.

Lewis is a Lee Health trauma surgeon and the physician who helped save Hall's life.

Hall is now a Lee Health Trauma Peer Mentor, supporting trauma patients and their families as they begin navigating their own recovery journeys.

"We couldn’t imagine a more deserving duo to start off Spring Training," Lee Health said in a Facebook post. "Please join us in celebrating Nichole and Dr. Lewis!"
