FHP provides low visibility driving tips amid Collier County brush fire

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

As a brush fire continues to burn in Collier County, Florida Highway Patrol has posted tips for drivers dealing with low visibility due to the smoke.

The fire, which is located south of Immokalee around the State Road 29 exit, mile marker 80, on Alligator Alley, could potentially cause visibility concerns for drivers traveling along the busy interstate.

Helpful tips for dealing with the low visibility, according to FHP, are:

• Driving with lights on low beam: High beams will reflect off the fog or smoke and impair visibility even more. Be sure that all your lights are working, as that is how other drivers will be able to see you.
• Slow down
• Watch out for slow-moving or stopped vehicles
  
• Reduce distractions inside your vehicle
  
• Use wipers and defrosters
  
• Use the right edge of the road or painted road markings as a guide
  
• Be patient
  
• Avoid passing and/or changing lanes
  
• Always use your turn signal
  
• Do not stop on the interstate or any heavily traveled road
