Alligator Alley reopens following smoke-related closure from Big Cypress National Preserve fire

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Alligator Alley has reopened following a smoke-related closure on Wednesday from a fire in the Big Cypress National Preserve.

According to a State Trooper, the stretch of I-75 in both directions from mile marker 80 in Collier County to mile marker 23 in Broward County, which closed at around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, has reopened.

Dense smoke and low visibility conditions prompted the closure, as a fire has been burning in the Big Cypress National Preserve since Monday. The fire has spread to almost 25,000 acres and is 0% contained, per the latest update from officials with the preserve.
