Fort Myers Beach sees spring break rush, businesses thrive

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla.—Fort Myers Beach is bustling with activity as spring break 2026 gets underway. 

The island is a popular destination among college students. 

"Affordable spring break, awesome place, good weather. I mean, you can't go wrong," said Chase Nolde, a student from Michigan State.

To ensure a safe environment, Lee County sheriff deputies have increased patrols and security measures on the island. 

Araceli, who has run The Charros Brothers' food business on the island for a decade, is excited for the influx of spring breakers.

"After Ian, it's gonna be the best, the first spring break good for everybody," said Araceli.

"We get more business, it's a good thing, you know. There are a lot of kids around, increasing the business," she added.

Jenna, another student from Michigan State, expressed interest in exploring local businesses.

"We have a lot of chain places where we're from. So I want to see, like, what, what the good stuff is around Fort Myers," said Jenna.

Araceli appreciates the support from spring breakers and acknowledges the challenges of running a business.

"Everything goes crazy in prices. It's very hard sometimes to stay afloat and, yeah, we try our best," said Araceli. "We are gonna be here. We serve it with all love, and we are grateful to everybody who shops."

Fort Myers Beach Mayor offered three pieces of advice for spring breakers: be smart, be safe, and clean up after yourself.
