Port Charlotte's Greek Fest returns with flavors, music, and community support

The sights, sounds, and flavors of Greece made a vibrant return to Port Charlotte this weekend. The 32nd Annual Greek Fest is underway at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.

Attendees immersed themselves in Greek culture, enjoying music, fresh pastries, and authentic Greek cuisine. The festival was not just a cultural celebration, but also a significant fundraiser for the community.

Visitors explored the church, which featured traditional decor and guided tours. A marketplace offered Greek imports and handcrafted goods, enhancing the cultural experience.

Entry to the festival required a $5 donation for the entire weekend, with kids 15 and under attending for free. The event takes place from Friday, February 28, to Sunday, March 1, at 24411 Rampart Boulevard, Port Charlotte. The festival hours are Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The festival served a deeper purpose beyond the festivities. It was the church's largest fundraiser of the year, supporting scholarships for local students and donations to organizations that assist families in need. The congregation of 70 families powered this effort.

“The message is, Love your neighbor, and we really feel like bringing the Greeks welcome and making everybody feel like family, and that's what this weekend is. It's all about family and it is our main fundraiser for the church. And we do a lot for the community so it works out for everybody,” said Catherine Sanders, the festival chair.

The event was a testament to community spirit and cultural preservation, with more community members and dancers contributing to the festival's success.
