Gas prices have surged the United States. Florida’s average for a gallon of gas has risen above $3, a significant increase from earlier this year when prices were the lowest since 2021.
Inflation from the rising gas prices has made investors cautious about investing in the stock market. Everyday household items may also become more expensive.
The Middle East conflict threatens major oil supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz, through which 20% of the world's oil supply travels. Suppliers are uncertain about the timing and cost of the next gasoline shipment.
Mark Jennings from AAA said, “Very few ships are going through there, and so there's a lot of supply now just sitting on barges and not being used.”
He added that the uncertainty is affecting oil prices, causing them to rise.
“When you're looking at oil prices themselves, every dollar shift in the price of crude oil typically leads to about a two and a half cent shift in the price of gasoline,” said Jennings.
WINK News will continue to monitor and report on the rise in gas prices.
