Manatee Middle School gets $50k science lab upgrade from FPL in Collier County

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.—Florida Power and Light (FPL) is not only illuminating classrooms but also transforming them. At Manatee Middle School in Collier County, FPL's generosity is set to revolutionize a science classroom with a substantial donation.

With a $50,000 grant, FPL is funding the creation of an outdoor science lab at the school. This initiative aims to provide students with a hands-on learning experience that will bring science to life. The existing lab is expected to be filled with supplies and tools, transforming it into a vibrant educational space.

"IT was surreal. And the kids' faces, you know, when they heard $50,000, and they went crazy, and they were cheering, and they're so excited," said Shanna Moss, a sixth-grade science teacher at Manatee Middle School.

Miguel, a sixth grader at the school, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I love science. I always like exploring, like, when we do labs, it's like one of my favorite things—I'm still very curious about how it's gonna look. But, I mean, I think it's gonna look really cool."

The school hopes to have the new and improved lab ready for students by the upcoming school year.
