WNK Listens event in Labelle concludes

LABELLE, Fla. — The WINK Listens event in Labelle concluded on Wednesday.

The event took place at the LaBelle Civic Center from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m.

WINK News launched "WINK Listens," a community-focused initiative to hear from residents across Southwest Florida about their challenges and successes.

Howard Ripps from East Naples visited our YMCA event in North Naples to discuss health concerns with the WINK News team.

"I don't know where to go from here, so I thought that maybe you guys have some resources, you might be able to take it a bit further," said Ripps.

Collier County residents, including Suzanne Perry and Carolyn Cofield, shared their stories, expressing appreciation for the opportunity to connect.

"This is the first time that I've ever done anything like this, and I'm so happy that I came really, really happy. So you feel empowered," said Cofield.

Joy Rogers, an 82-year-old from Babcock Ranch, shared the difficulties of retrieving mail due to her mobility issues.

"It's simply impossible," said Rogers.

Shannon Perez voiced frustration over denied applications for Elevate Florida, questioning the allocation of funds.

"Where's the money? DeSantis, who got the money? Because I'm pretty sure it wasn't the average Joe," said Perez.

In Cape Coral, residents expressed concerns about changes to Jaycee Park and spending related to the Yacht Club.

"They are just spending, spending and spending and don't care. At some point, you have to care about the people," a resident said.

In Lehigh Acres, 13-year-old Ashley Mora highlighted the lack of sidewalks near her school bus stop.

"Build sidewalks to protect the kids that are younger, so cars don't just go there, you know, end the child's life," said Mora.
