Cape Coral invests $6 million in road resurfacing to address aging infrastructure

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

Cape Coral is investing $6 million to resurface 72 miles of roads, including El Dorado Parkway, to address aging infrastructure and prevent future issues.

Residents like Jose Rosario, who lives along El Dorado Parkway and Southwest 11th Place, have noticed the wear and tear on the roads.

"You can see right now these roads are cracking up pretty good, so I think good maintenance is something they should continue," Rosario said.

Rosario highlighted the importance of maintaining the road, which is heavily used due to nearby hotels and restaurants.

"It is a very heavily used road, and more so with the hotel. You got the West End and all that, and a lot of restaurants coming on the corner here with Pinches, Social House," he said.

He also noted that previous resurfacing efforts have been beneficial. "Yeah, we've had it done here about 2 or 3 times, and it's been great," Rosario said.

The resurfacing plan includes other major roadways such as Oasis Boulevard, Mohawk Parkway, and Cape Coral Parkway West.

Cape Coral Council Member Jennifer Nelson-Lastra explained the approach to selecting roads for resurfacing.

"We look at our local roads, of course, of roads that we all take to go to work every day. We look at neighborhoods so that, you know, our residents, when they're driving in and out of their neighborhoods, they feel safe," Nelson-Lastra said.

She emphasized the importance of emergency paving efforts to avoid larger issues. "If we have to dig up the roadway because there's a broken pipe, we're easily able to fix that paving immediately, under an emergency situation. And the roads do not suffer," she said.
