A bald eagle named F23, which was frequently tracked on the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam by Dick Pritchett Real Estate, is believed to be dead.
According to the eagle cam's Facebook page, F23 had not been seen on the cameras located at the nest in North Fort Myers since Feb. 27, and on Tuesday, the page reported that a dead eagle was found less than two miles from F23's nest, which led them to the conclusion that F23 had died.
While it is not officially confirmed, the page is moving forward with the conclusion that the female eagle, F23, died as a result of the proximity and timing of flying near Bayshore Road.
On Wednesday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that no foul play was involved in the death of the eagle. Preliminary assessments showed that the eagle most likely died after being hit by a car.
"Loss in the wild is never easy to witness. It is a sobering reminder that nature, while beautiful, can also be unforgiving," the Facebook post said. "Still, the time we were given to watch F23 soar, nurture, and thrive is something no one can take away."
