Longtime Lee County and circuit judge, the Honorable Judge John S. Carlin, husband of Lee County schools Superintendent Denise Carlin, Ed.D., died on Friday, according to multiple sources.
Carlin suffered a cardiac event on Feb. 27 and remained in the ICU for six days before passing away at 5 p.m. Thursday.
Carlin served as a judge on the 2oth Judicial Circuit of Florida for 30 years. He focused mainly on cases pertaining to domestic relations and family law.
He received his bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from Ohio State University, and began his career serving as an Assistant State Attorney in the 20th Judicial Circuit.
Carlin was in private practice before being elected as a Lee County Judge on Sept. 4, 1990. He won re-election in 1994 to serve another term.
In 1996, Carlin was elected as a Circuit Court Judge in the 20th Circuit. He was re-elected in 2002, 2008, 2014 and 2020.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
The final cause of death has not been announced.
