Man accused of going over 95 mph on McGregor Boulevard in Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. —

A man was arrested Wednesday night after he was accused of going 96 mph in a 45 mph zone on McGregor Boulevard in Lee County.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office's arrest report, Michael Ernest Smetana, 40, was arrested after deputies measured the speed of the vehicle, a white Chevrolet Avalanche, to be 51 mph over the limit.

The vehicle stopped in the parking lot of Peace Lutheran Church, and Smetana was arrested there.

Smetana is facing a charge of operating a vehicle exceeding the speed limit at 50+ mph, according to the sheriff's office.
