Crews battled a brush fire started by a lawnmower on fire on Carolyn Lane in Lehigh Acres Saturday.
According to the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District, the incident log showed about three acres of light fuel were on fire, and it spread across a canal but no structures were affected.
The fire is considered out and crews are mopping up hot spots, the fire district said. They received help from Estero, San Carlos Park, North Fort Myers and Tice fire departments as well as the Florida Forest Service.
Residents in the area will smell smoke for a while and are encouraged to call 911 for fires occurring on the outside of the burned area.
