North Fort Myers woman accused of disorderly intoxication after punching school bus

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. —

A North Fort Myers woman is accused of disorderly intoxication after punching and throwing herself into a Lee County School Bus on Thursday.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to the area of Evergreen Road and Piney Road at around 8:38 a.m. in reference to a woman who was seen punching a school bus and throwing her body into the rear of the bus as it drove away.

The witness who reported the incident spoke to deputies and provided them with video footage. The witness saw a woman standing among the children at a bus stop. The woman then began shouting at the bus before hitting it.

She then walked north on Piney Road, standing in front of and shouting at several cars on the road, the video showed.

Deputies located the woman, identified as Roberta Stancel, 55, getting into a car in the driveway of a residence. Deputies immediately conducted a stop on the car, and asked Stancel to get out of the car.

Stancel immediately became confrontational, and deputies noticed she had bloodshot eyes and was slurring her speech, the report said. Stancel's breath also smelled like alcohol.

Deputies told Stancel she was not allowed to leave, and the driver of the car said they no longer felt comfortable letting Stancel in their car.

According to the report, Stancel then opened the car door, sat down, and slammed the door shut, locking it. Deputies then told Stancel to get out of the car multiple times, but she did not.

Deputies then reached in through the open car window, unlocked the door, and ordered Stancel to get out. Stancel exited, and deputies placed her in handcuffs, which she struggled against, the report said.

Stancel was arrested and faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, disorderly intoxication causing a public disturbance and knowingly disrupting or interfering with the lawful function of an educational institution.
