FORT MYERS, Fla. - Gas prices have surged in Florida, causing financial strain for many drivers. The recent conflict in Iran is contributing to the rising costs, with the average gas price in the state reaching $3.49 per gallon, up from $2.88 last week, according to AAA.
In Fort Myers, drivers are feeling the impact on their wallets. One driver reported spending $80 to fill up a car with premium gas, a significant increase from the typical $50.
"I hope it doesn't get worse than this," said Noah Benabe, a local driver. "I mean, that's actually insane. Spending the same price of a truck for a car, it's pretty wild."
Julie and Christy Casadon, who work as Uber Eats and DoorDash drivers, shared their concerns about the situation.
"If the prices are going up, then it's like you got to figure out what you're going to spend it on, and sometimes something may not get paid," they said. "And I know a lot of people are struggling, and it's just there's more struggle than people getting ahead."
The rising gas prices are a growing concern for many, especially those who depend on their vehicles for work. As the situation unfolds, drivers are left hoping for relief at the pump.
