Collier County plans $1.57 million roundabout at Immokalee intersection

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Collier County leaders are expected to green-light a roundabout project at the intersection of Immokalee and Camp Keais roads, a rural and busy area that has been the site of several deadly crashes in recent years.

Currently, there is only a stop sign and a traffic light at the intersection, and traffic tends to build up as it is one of the main roads to get to Ave Maria.

For years, Collier County leaders have been wanting to give the intersection a makeover to allow for a smoother and safer commute.

The Board of County Commissioners is looking to move forward with a $1.57 million contract for the design of a four-point roundabout.

The county would get a reimbursement of $1.05 million for the project from a state-funded FDOT grant. If approved, the project would move into the design phase.

Collier Commissioners start their meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
