Estero leaders review proposal to transform Regal movie theater site into apartments

ESTERO, Fla. —

Estero leaders are holding a workshop today to review a proposal to convert the vacant Regal movie theater site at Coconut Point into an apartment complex.

The theater had its final curtain call back in 2022 and has been vacant ever since.

Under the current plan, the building would be demolished and replaced with a 365-unit apartment project called Waypoint Residences.

The development would include a new apartment building, a parking garage, and additional surface parking throughout the property.

The developer is also presenting updated plans after receiving feedback from the board during a public meeting back in January.

Although nothing will be decided Tuesday, it's another step toward progress for this project.

The meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and will be held in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
