Hiker rescued after becoming dehydrated while trekking through Big Cypress National Preserve

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

Collier County first responders made a daring rescue inside the Big Cypress National Preserve on Monday evening.

A 58-year-old hiker called 911 for help after he became dehydrated while trekking through the preserve. According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, GPS coordinates placed him approximately 5 miles south of Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 61.

The CCSO aviation team, alongside North Collier Fire Control & Rescue District medics, headed for the man's last known location. The CCSO's pilots in the sky were able to spot him after a few minutes, and crews lifted him to safety.
