Measles case confirmed at Donahue Academy K-12 school in Ave Maria

AVE MARIA, Fla. —

A measles case has been confirmed at the Donahue Academy of Ave Maria.

According to the Diocese of Venice in Florida, there is one confirmed case.

Gulf Coast News previously reported on March 5 that Department of Health data showed 93 people in Collier County had a probable or confirmed case of measles from Jan. 1 to Feb. 26.

Data also showed that there were two confirmed cases in Lee County.

Measles is spread through the air by breathing, coughing, or sneezing. It can be transmitted four days before the rash becomes visible to four days after the rash appears. The symptoms of measles generally begin approximately eight to 14 days after a person is exposed to someone with measles, with a range of seven to 21 days.
