Punta Gorda residents battle near record-breaking heat

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — Punta Gorda is sizzling under near record-breaking heat just days away from the start of spring. Residents and visitors alike are seeking ways to stay cool in the sweltering temperatures.

WINK News reporter Zoe Warner was at Fishermen's Village, where she found people using fans, sunscreen, and water to beat the heat. Some even opted for ice cream as their go-to cool-down treat.

Ace Hart, a courtesy shuttle driver at Fishermen's Village, is helping visitors keep their cool.

"I get a chance to meet a lot of people," said Hart. "I'm kind of a people person, so I just like talking to people and making them welcome."

Hart's service is invaluable for those who park far away or need a quick lift after a long, hot day.

"I drop you off anywhere in the village. If you got packages, just call me," said Hart. "I'll pick you up anywhere in the village, take you right to your car and unload them and take you right back in so they don't have to make that walk. That's what we're here for."

Though retired, Hart keeps active by meeting new people and assisting them in any way he can.

"We watch for people in distress. I watch for people with the disabilities, with on canes, or I see them kind of walking funny," said Hart. "I shoot right towards them to see if that, if I can be of any help."

Hart's dedication ensures that visitors to Fishermen's Village can enjoy their day without overheating. The courtesy shuttle service is available from 9 a.m. - 10 p.m. each day.
