City of Punta Gorda issues watering citations amid severe water shortage

PUNTA GORDA, Fla. —

The City of Punta Gorda announced it is actively enforcing mandatory watering restrictions as the city is in a severe water shortage.

According to the city, the Southwest Florida Water Management District has issued a Modified Phase II Severe Water Shortage, which means water regulations are mandatory.

25 citations were issued on Wednesday, the city said.

The regulations state that residents can water once per week and only once per day on the specific day assigned to their individual address.

Due to the severity of the shortage, the city said it is not issuing warnings, and citations will be issued for first-time violations.

The city urges residents to visit its website to confirm their scheduled watering day.
