WINK Exlcusive: Englewood grandmother speaks out after girl exposed to fentanyl

ENGLEWOOD, Fla. (WINK) — A grandmother is stepping in to care for her three grandchildren after a frightening incident involving fentanyl exposure. The family is now focused on helping the young girl heal.

Tami Morgan, the children's grandmother, shared with WINK News that the young girl is doing okay but is still being closely monitored.

"I was in disbelief at first," said Morgan, expressing her initial shock upon learning her grandchild had been exposed to fentanyl.

Morgan is now stepping in to care for her grandchildren after the overdose incident. She described her granddaughter as a strong gymnast with whom she shares a close relationship.

"She is a gymnast. She is very open with how she feels, and we talk really. We have a very, very good relationship," said Morgan.

Morgan mentioned that the emotional weight of the incident is something the family is still trying to process.

"There's some mental health things going on there, there's things that, unfortunately, these kids have grown up with," said Morgan.

The children's parents, Joshua Sanders and Courtney Delaney, are facing child neglect charges and are currently behind bars.

"I did see him today in the courtroom during the hearing, and it was very hard, very hard to see them both in there, and what they're going through emotionally," said Morgan.

Morgan emphasized the fear of nearly losing her grandchild and believes the situation should never have happened. Her priority is now to help her grandchildren feel safe again.

"I just want to make sure that all of the kids know that it's going to be okay. No matter what, it's going to be okay," said Morgan.

Morgan said the young girl will likely remain under observation for several more days. The children are expected to remain with their grandmother in Englewood.
