Driver caught on dashcam running stop sign in Cape Coral, raising safety concerns

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

A Cape Coral driver was caught on dashcam video speeding through a stop sign this week, adding to growing concerns among residents who say traffic violations at local intersections are becoming too common.

The latest incident occurred Wednesday at the intersection of Northwest Third Terrace and Nelson Road North, where a vehicle was seen passing through a stop sign without slowing down.

The location is less than three miles from another intersection where a similar incident was reported last month. In that case, a driver drove through a stop sign at Andalusia Boulevard and Tropicana Parkway without stopping.

Residents say the behavior is happening more frequently and poses a serious risk to drivers, cyclists and pedestrians.

Ashley White, a Cape Coral resident, said she regularly sees drivers ignore stop signs in the area.

“A lot of people, you know, running the stop signs and generally, you know, it's almost like it's not there,” White said.

Drivers say the violations have led to tense moments on the road.

Joshua Gorman, who also lives in Cape Coral, said he has had several close calls with drivers who failed to stop.

“I've actually almost been hit a couple of times by people just blowing through stop signs,” Gorman said. “I'm not trying to risk anything.”

Some drivers say they have started honking their horns or taking extra precautions when approaching intersections where stop signs are frequently ignored.

Failing to stop at a stop sign can result in a traffic citation and significantly increases the risk of a crash.

Residents say they hope more drivers will follow the law and treat stop signs seriously.

“It’s dangerous and scary at times,” White said.
