The iconic beachside restaurant, The Mucky Duck, has reopened its doors following extensive hurricane damage and repairs.
According to the restaurant's Facebook page, The Mucky Duck reopened on Saturday after over a year of being closed due to damage from Hurricanes Ian, Helene and Milton.
The restaurant closed down in October 2024 due to storm surge damage from Hurricane Milton.
The restaurant announced it will have a completely new and reconfigured kitchen, new computer systems and more.
The reopening comes on the heels of a lawsuit the restaurant filed against the Captiva Erosion Prevention District and the Captiva Erosion Prevention Board of Commissioners.
The lawsuit alleges that the district and board illegally used powers granted for beach and shore prevention to build an illegal 12-foot artificial dune barrier. The lawsuit says the dune blocks the restaurant's iconic beach sunset view.
After reopening, the restaurant owners released a statement saying, "We won't even get into the dunes issue, except to say it's just been more stress that they didn't need or want to endure or take on."
