Cape Coral police seek information on weekend disturbances in Yucca Pens Preserve

CAPE CORAL, Fla. —

The Cape Coral Police Department is asking for help from the public regarding a disturbance in the Yucca Pens Preserve late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Officers said they responded to the area after callers reported shots fired. While police dealt with the incident, a crash with injuries was also reported nearby.

A person was severely injured and transported to a hospital via Lee Flight, police said. An ATV was also located in a nearby canal.

A party got out of hand in the preserve over the weekend and police responded. This is the same investigation.

Gulf Coast News went to the party site and saw numerous shell casings and an ammunition box scattered across the ground. The area also showed signs of heavy partying, including crushed alcohol cans and burned patches of ground.

Residents who live near the preserve say gatherings in the area have become increasingly disruptive and dangerous.

“I’m a mom of three. I can’t even bring my kids remotely near my front yard because these two roads are so close to the Yucca Pens,” Justina Monro said. “You’re risking someone speeding down on an ATV.”

Cape Coral police said that no one is in custody at the moment.
