Former Fort Myers man sentenced to prison for role in Canadian firearm trafficking scheme

FORT MYERS, Fla. —

An Atlanta man, formerly from Fort Myers, was sentenced Tuesday to two years in federal prison for his role in a firearm trafficking scheme that led to guns being smuggled into Canada.

According to the State Attorney's Office's Middle District of Florida's news release, Osnyson Desrosiers pled guilty on Nov. 19, 2025, to conspiring to make a false statement to a firearms dealer and making false statements to a firearms dealer.

Court records detail that Desrosiers and Derick Desir were able to “straw purchase” several dozen Glock handguns from licensed firearms dealers in Florida. A straw purchase is when someone buys a gun for a person who cannot legally buy one for themselves.

Desrosiers claimed that he was the actual buyer of the firearms, but he knew they were being trafficked to a third party, according to documents. Evidence revealed the firearms were smuggled into Canada, and several have been recovered during law enforcement investigations.

Desir was sentenced to three years and 10 months in federal prison for his role in the conspiracy in November 2025.
