Lee County commissioners voted to approve the purchase of nearly 11 acres of land at 5040 Buckingham Road in east Lee County for the Conservation 20/20 program Tuesday.
Approximately 31,757 acres are within the Conservation 20/20 Land Acquisition Program, which aims to preserve natural habitats and enhance public access to natural spaces.
This latest purchase came with a $630,000 price tag and is located along the Orange River, west and south of the Buckingham Community Center. Closing costs for the location are estimated to be $25,000, according to the Lee County government.
According to officials, the Lee County Department of Transportation will use a small piece of the land along Buckingham Road and opposite Cemetery Road for traffic signal improvements. Lee County DOT will reimburse the Conservation 20/20 program with another piece of land of the same size, estimated at $2,000.
