Lee County commissioners have approved a $90,000 binding offer for land in the Cape Coral Bridge replacement project.
The binding offer is estimated to cost $90,000 for the land rights of 1709 Bikini Court in Cape Coral. According to the Lee County government, closing costs are estimated to be $6,000.
This new offer is approximately $13,800 over the land parcel's appraised value of $76,200.
The county said the offer is needed to comply with Florida Statutes and accommodate the project's schedule.
Construction on the new Cape Coral Bridge is scheduled to begin in 2028 and could take up to four years to complete, according to county leaders. The project is one of Lee County's largest ever and will replace two bridges - one of which was built in 1963 and the other in 1968.
The bridge currently has two lanes each way, but the new bridge will feature three lanes on each side and a shared path for walkers and cyclists.
Plans also include improvements to the Del Prado Boulevard and Cape Coral Parkway intersection, as well as on College Parkway and McGregor Blvd, to ensure traffic flows freely on either side of the bridge.
