Lee County Commissioners have voted to end the county's lease agreement with Trico Shrimp Company.
Commissioners voted on Tuesday to nix the agreement, which has been in place since 1994. The lease was set to expire in 2034.
Trico Shrimp Company leases property at San Carlos Island Maritime Park from Lee County. Under the lease, Trico is solely responsible for maintaining all structures in good and safe condition.
Hurricane Ian severely damaged the buildings and docks on the leased property, leaving the structures in unsafe conditions. Trico has not repaired the structures, submitted any permits, or proposed any remediation, leading the county to demolish the structures in July 2025.
Lee County attempted to negotiate an amended lease with Trico, but those attempts failed, leading to the county's decision to terminate the lease agreement.
