Fort Myers Beach man accused of DUI hit-and-run crash, punching deputy

CYPRESS LAKE, Fla. —

A Fort Myers Beach man was arrested on Monday after being accused of DUI and punching a deputy.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office arrest report, deputies responded to a scene of a hit-and-run crash with major damage on Fiesta Lane in Cypress Lake at around 5:14 p.m.

Deputies spoke with the victim, who said that their car was parked in front of a home when a silver pickup truck crashed into it and drove away.

Deputies made contact with the driver of the pickup truck, identified as Stephen Prenoveau, 66. During their interactions, Prenoveau could not stand up straight and consistently lost his balance, the report said.

Deputies also noted that Prenoveau had watery eyes and a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his face.

Prenoveau then became very combative towards the deputies and punched one multiple times in the chest, the report said.

Prenoveau was arrested and faces charges of DUI, refusal to submit to BAL testing, leaving the scene of a crash with damage, DUI property damage and battery on a law enforcement officer.
