FGCU Eagles eye victory in Women's National Invitation Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. (WINK) — The FGCU women's basketball team is preparing for the postseason after earning a first-round bye in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

The Eagles will host Loyola Chicago Monday night at 7 p.m. at Alico Arena. This marks the program's 18th consecutive postseason appearance.

"I'm grateful to even be a part of this team," said Nay Staton, fifth-year forward. "And just knowing the history, when I committed here, I wanted to add to that."

Staton said keeping the streak alive means even more after a shaky start to the season.

"It's not always about how we start, it's always about how we finish, so for us to continue to play basketball here in March I'm pretty grateful," Staton said.

This is the first postseason with the Eagles for first-year head coach Raina Harmon.

"We're looking to win it," Harmon said. "Now we're not going to look too far in advance right to the finals, but at the end of the day, when we step on the floor at any time, whatever it's for, we're looking to go 1-0."

Staton said she feels the same, knowing every game now could be her last in an Eagles uniform.

"Just excited to put another FGCU jersey on and to play with my team one more one last time," Staton said.

The Eagles face Loyola Chicago in their round two matchup Monday night.
