Helicopter crashes into building in Boynton Beach; 2 killed

Boynton Beach police and Boynton Beach fire are investigating a helicopter crash on Monday afternoon in Boynton Beach.

Boynton Beach Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Matt Oxendine said during a press conference on Monday afternoon that it, along with the police department, received a call about the crash at 12:24 p.m.

It happened near the Monterey Community on Congress Avenue.

When the got to the scene, they found one small helicopter inside one of the buildings that crashed through the roof.

There were no survivors.

The scene was secured by first responders. Oxendine said it is waiting for the Federal Aviation Administration to arrive at the scene to begin its investigation into the crash.

The FAA released the following statement to WPBF 25 News on Monday afternoon:

"A Robinson R44 helicopter crashed into a building in Boynton Beach, Florida, around 12:30 p.m. local time on Monday, March 23.

Two people were on board.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate. The NTSB will lead the investigation and will provide further updates."

At the time of the crash, the warehouse was vacant, but there were workers outside.

Oxendine said there was no smoke, fire or fuel spill with the crash.
