An 18-year-old was arrested after a Facebook Marketplace deal in Cape Coral went awry, after police say the suspect tried to steal $15K worth of jewelry from the seller.
The Cape Coral Police Department responded to a southeast Cape Coral home on Friday at approximately 7:48 p.m.
A man told police that a person he met through Facebook Marketplace tried to steal jewelry from him before he caught the suspect and held him to the ground.
CCPD said when they arrived, they found Jayden Everett being restrained to the ground by the victim. According to police, the victim arranged to sell Everett two gold chains and a gold pendant, and Everett agreed to meet him at the victim's residence to pay in cash.
However, during the meeting in the victim's garage, Everett reportedly brought a scale, weighed the jewelry, then grabbed the three pieces and ran away.
According to CCPD, the victim chased Everett and tackled him near the home. The victim's relatives recovered the jewelry and called 911.
Everett was arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail. He is facing a charge of grand theft (involving property valued between $10,000 and $20,000).
