An arrest has been made in relation to a 2015 burglary and sexual battery case in Lee County.
According to the Fort Myers Police Department, Gladimy Charles, 33, was arrested on Thursday on an active Lee County warrant for first-degree burglary with assault or battery and sexual battery with threat of force.
The incident took place in 2015, with the original investigation revealing that an unknown suspect broke into an occupied residence during the early morning hours, FMPD said.
The suspect then made contact with the adult victim, and once the victim realized the suspect was not someone they knew, the encounter escalated into a sexual battery, with the suspect fleeing the residence afterwards, according to FMPD.
The suspect was not immediately identified at the time of the incident. Over the course of the investigation, evidence was collected, and recent advancements in investigative techniques led to the identification of Charles as the suspect, FMPD said.
Charles was located at the Krome North Service Processing Center in Miami, awaiting his deportation to Haiti.
With the assistance of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Charles was transported back to Lee County and turned over to the Fort Myers Police Department.
He was then transported to the Lee County Jail.
