Golden Gate Estates neighbors worried over fast trucks on residential road

GOLDEN GATE ESTATES, Fla. (WINK) — Neighbors on 17th Street Southwest say commercial vehicles have been speeding through their residential area, even though the speed limit is 30 miles per hour.

Loren Valvasori bought her home on 17th Street in 2021. She described what she says she sees every day.

"We're seeing a lot of big, long trucks, like the big ones that you see on the highways, and they're at a good speed, very quick," Valvasori said. "It's almost to the point where it's unsettling."

If she had known about the traffic situation when she looked at the house, she would have never bought it.

Neighbors say this residential road is too narrow to handle that type of heavy traffic. Valvasori said her neighbor brought the concerns to the county about the traffic coming down 17th Street, and they said it would be about five years before the concerns would be resolved and that this wasn't a permanent situation.

Another neighbor told WINK News his biggest concern is not the trucks themselves, but how fast some vehicles are driving through the area.

"Personally, I am not worried or bothered that trucks and trailers pass through, because I understand there are businesses that need to move their things," Rogelio Joaquín Rodríguez said. "But not at the speed they are going."

 Collier County officials said they are looking into the issue.
