Charlotte County commissioners rescind burn ban enacted in December

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. —

With recent rainfall across Florida's Gulf Coast, Charlotte County commissioners voted to rescind a burn ban that has been in place since Dec. 9.

According to Charlotte County Government, the rainfall has reduced the risk of wildfires, and Charlotte County Fire and EMS Chief Matthew McElroy recommended lifting the ban after reviewing several factors, such as local and regional fire weather data, fuel conditions, and consultation with the Florida Forest Service.

Officials said residents are allowed to resume outdoor burning activities, including recreational fires and yard waste burning, as long as it follows county ordinances and state regulations. The Florida Forest Service will continue to regulate controlled agricultural and silvicultural burns.

Charlotte County Fire and EMS will continue monitoring weather and fuel conditions and will recommend renewed restrictions if fire danger increases.
