Dogs rescued from 'filthy conditions' in illegal Collier County breeding operation will be adoptable

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. —

The 50 dogs rescued from what Collier County deputies said was an illegal dog breeding operation will be able to be adopted through Collier County Domestic Animal Services (DAS), the sheriff's office announced Wednesday.

In January, 50 dogs, including 18 puppies, were taken from a home by the Collier County Sheriff's Office. According to court records, this is the same case where Olga Kapishon was arrested.

Kapishon faces 19 counts of failing to provide certified health certificates for dogs she had listed for sale and one count of practicing veterinary medicine without a license.

Collier County DAS and Patty Baker Humane Society Naples (PBHSN) have taken care of the dogs since then.

On Monday, deputies said a judge granted the sheriff's office's petition to remove Kapishon's ownership of the dogs. This also includes 20 additional puppies that were born while in custody, and all the dogs are in the care of Collier County DAS.

Kapishon has to pay nearly $30,000 for the dogs' care, and the criminal case is still pending, according to CCSO.

The dogs will be available for adoption through Collier County DAS, but not all at once. Some of them still need medical care, and others are in foster homes and may be adopted by their foster families, deputies said.

Additionally, Collier County DAS and PBHSN are not able to give updates on individual dogs because of the high number of inquiries. Both DAS and PBHSN will have animals available for adoption posted in real time on their websites.
