A man was arrested after a carjacking turned into a police pursuit through Fort Myers.
On Tuesday, the Fort Myers Police Department responded to the area of Colonial Boulevard and Six Mile Cypress Parkway after receiving reports of a man causing a disturbance in traffic.
According to FMPD, witnesses said the man was in the roadway, approaching moving vehicles, grabbing door handles, and attempting to enter the vehicles while they were stopped and in motion.
Officers were notified that the man stole a blue Nissan Sentra and was last seen traveling eastbound on Colonial Boulevard.
An officer located the vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop on the driver, later identified as Kevin Matthew Resuche, 19, but he reportedly kept driving.
Officers chased the vehicle through the city, and the pursuit ended near Six Mile Cypress Parkway and Daniels Parkway. FMPD said heavy traffic forced the vehicle to stop.
Resuche was taken into custody and is facing charges of robbery, carjacking, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement with high-speed reckless driving.
FMPD said Resuche was transported for medical treatment before being booked into the Lee County Jail.
