Third swatting call this week locks down West Elementary School in Arcadia; No threat, deputies say

ARCADIA, Fla. —

DeSoto County Sheriff's Office deputies and Arcadia police officers responded to West Elementary School Thursday morning in response to an active shooter threat, which turned out to be false.

According to DCSO, deputies conducted a thorough search of the school campus, including all classrooms and facilities, and determined there was no credible threat.

The call was determined to be a hoax, also called a "swatting" call.

DCSO said the response followed standard law enforcement procedures to ensure the safety of the students and staff at the school, and the incident is currently under investigation.

This is the third "swatting" incident this week at West Elementary School.
