Deputies working on death investigation near Lee County Elections Center, facility not involved

LEE COUNTY, Fla. (WINK) — The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is working on a death investigation near the Lee County Election Center.

A significant law enforcement presence was reported at around 3 p.m. on Thursday, with a mix of crime unit vans, trucks, detective unmarked vehicles, and medical examiner vehicles on scene.

Yellow police tape had been wrapped around the perimeter of the Lee County Election Center blocking off four rows in the back parking lot.

The scene was confirmed to be related to a death investigation on Friday morning. An ongoing investigation brought LCSO to this location. The elections office is not related to the scene.

On Thursday, WINK News contacted the Lee County Elections Center for a statement on the scene. Their response was the following:

"We have not been contacted by the LCSO regarding their activity. Our office maintains normal operations at this time. For clarification, their activity is neither related to nor connected with any activity from our office."

The Elections Office added that this investigation is not connected to their building or their operations.
