Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is searching for a man after a shooting incident at the Pilot gas station on Jones Loop Road.
According to the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office, shots were fired into a vehicle at the gas station on March 8. CCSO said no one was injured, and Travis Merrell, 33, was identified as the shooter.
Deputies and the United States Marshals Task Force are looking for Merrell, and he's considered to be armed and dangerous.
Trish Routte from SWFL Crimestoppers emphasized the danger, saying, "If you've seen him, do not approach him again, again considered armed and dangerous. He will use that gun. He proved that as a fact a couple of weeks ago."
SWFL Crimestoppers and Charlotte County deputies have listed Merrell as one of the county's most wanted individuals.
"He's got a real lengthy criminal history. He spent 12 years in prison, for various charges, and has an extensive criminal history out of DeSoto County," Routte said.
Court documents reveal Merrell has been arrested about a dozen times since 2010 for charges including grand theft auto, hit and run, possession of meth and marijuana, and driving without a license.
SWFL Crime Stoppers said that although Merrell's warrant is out of Charlotte County, investigators believe he might be in the Arcadia area.
According to authorities, Merrell will face charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, shooting into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm from a moving vehicle, and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.
Anyone with information about Merrell's whereabouts can contact CCSO's non-emergency number at 941-639-2101. You can also reach out to SWFL Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
